Farmers warn: ‘Don’t make us carry the can on emissions’

Agricultural industries say they should not be made to compensate for high carbon emissions in other parts of the economy, as mining billionaire Andrew Forrest urged the government to raise the bar on its emissions reduction target to 75 per cent by 2035.

GrainGrowers, a group representing Australian grain farmers, said setting overly ambitious climate targets could put undue pressure on regional businesses by encouraging an overreliance on carbon offsets rather than direct emissions reductions.
