The Albanese government was locked in tense negotiations with the Greens and the opposition late on Wednesday trying to hash out a deal to pass Labor’s overhaul of Australia’s broken environment laws, prompting an eleventh-hour plea to the Coalition from the West Australian Premier.
Greens leader Larissa Waters and party environment spokeswoman Sarah Hanson-Young met with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on Wednesday morning, and were seen going into his office in the afternoon after question time, leading Coalition MPs to believe a deal was imminent.
