On the anniversary of the Voice referendum, it is timely to reflect on what we have learnt and give some thought for how best to help Indigenous Australians.
I don’t intend to do a full postmortem on why it failed, other than to say it was simply wrong to assume that Indigenous Australians somehow lack a voice on matters that affect them. Instead, I am writing this because I believe the idea of a Voice-like proposal is still relevant a year after the referendum, for reasons I discuss here.
