Australian companies are launching overseas recruitment drives to fill skills gaps once international border restrictions ease, with one national pub group going on a worldwide hunt for more than 100 staff.

The worker shortage has reached crisis levels, with National Australia Bank chief executive Ross McEwan saying it was the biggest issue facing Australia. No matter the industry, all business owners he spoke to said they were struggling to find workers, and he called on the government to open borders as soon as possible.
