Trade to be governed by broad trade agreements more than tariffs
Trade agreements are increasingly addressing the regulation of services, writes Mark Abernethy.
The next period of trade will likely be governed by broader, framework-styled agreements, rather than simple tariff treaties.
"The movement in our trade agreements is towards liberalising regulation so services companies can operate offshore," says director of the Export Council of Australia, Andrew Hudson. "Ten years ago, the focus was so intensely on tariffs, that regulation and red tape wasn't really addressed."
