It’s about time Australia adopts a low-tech, cheap and cheerful solution – QR codes – to make payments simpler and cheaper as an alternative to card schemes and Apple Pay (“Chemist giant goes to war on credit card fees”). We are very late to the party.

India, China and most of South-East Asia have already shown this method can scale. All payment apps in India offer a QR code option, and they process about 70 billion payments a year this way.
