War over Taiwan would be a major shock to Australia’s economy by crippling the shipment of more than 1600 Chinese product lines including steel, nails, screws, safety glass and plywood, a new think tank report warns.

The major vulnerability for Australia would be a shortage of crucial imports from China, if Beijing attempted to seize Taiwan by force and the United States and allies responded militarily, the Australian Strategic Policy Institute report found.
