Qld to slug miner with $20m tax rise

Mining giant Glencore will be the sole company affected by a Queensland payroll tax tweak that will cost the business $20 million and threaten to deepen tensions between the Labor government and resources sector.

The Australian Financial Review can reveal Tuesday’s state budget will amend the eligibility criteria for a regional payroll tax discount, which will result in a $5 million annual increase to the state’s revenue for each of the next four financial years.
