Omicron no barrier to record $78b farm gate output

Pandemic labour shortages and rising input costs are not expected to dent a record $78 billion year for the agriculture sector, and while prices are expected to moderate for some products, farmers are hopeful they will have a third record-breaking result in 2022-23.

“We’ve been one of the sectors that’s been able to weather the storm and not only consolidate but improve during the pandemic,” National Farmers’ Federation chief executive Tony Mahar said, and while there had been some disruptions across the supply chain, “farmers are getting on with the job”.
