Mega investment funds face share ownership probe
Increasing share market ownership concentration by the $850 billion industry superannuation sector and index funds operated by American investment giants BlackRock and Vanguard will be probed by a new parliamentary inquiry signed off by Treasurer Josh Frydenberg.
The inquiry will investigate the extent of common ownership of publicly listed companies and the impact on investment decisions, competition, consumer harm and market behaviour, according to the terms of reference obtained by The Australian Financial Review.
