‘If I have to work on Christmas, I’m happy here’

While Christmas Day means myriad things to different people, most people can agree that it is a day of rest, not work. So spare a thought for those whose celebrations are limited to a workroom lunch.

Spare a thought, then, for those whose Christmas celebrations are limited to a hurried workroom lunch, before returning to rounds on the hospital ward. For others the day is a shift at the local pub, or a caffeine-infused morning at the helm of inner-city coffee machine.
