The federal government’s proposed caps on international student numbers are at odds with the needs of the economy.

International education is one of Australia’s top exports. At a time when the government is seeking to grow exports, drive Australia up the value chain, and remove impediments to trade, the caps would be deeply harmful. They could well plunge Australia into recession.
