China producer prices surge but CPI disappoints

China’s producer price index surged to a 12-year high in May but consumer prices continued to disappoint, as businesses struggled to pass on higher prices to their customers in the world’s second-largest economy.
Factory gate prices in China jumped 9 per cent in May, up from a 6.8 per cent increase a month earlier, and exceeding economist forecasts for an 8.5 per cent rise.
