This is Australia’s “hikikomori” moment.
About five years ago the Japanese Health, Labour and Welfare Ministry identified more than half a million people partaking in a social trend called “hikikomori”. The ministry defined that as people who have stayed in their home for six months or more without going to school, work or venturing out to socialise.
