Secretary role pays more

Australia's top listed companies are paying their company secretaries more as they recognise the increasingly specialised role of these executives in board management and corporate government, Chartered Secretaries Australia said in its fourth benchmarking governance in Australia survey. It found large companies paid company secretaries on average $416,000 in 2007 compared with $377,500 three years ago. Remuneration for medium-sized companies increased to $302,079 in 2007 from $266,667 in 2005.
