China not afraid to 'fight back' as markets tumble on trade fears

Kunming/Washington | China has urged its citizens not to panic as an escalation of its trade war with the United States triggered a sell-off on markets in Australia and around the globe.

However, Beijing also warned it was prepared to "fight back" if Donald Trump played hard ball with the world's second-largest economy.
