All three US benchmarks closed higher as the post-election rally endured albeit at a somewhat more moderate pace. Tesla leapt, helping it recapture the $US1 trillion market cap mark.
The S&P 500 rose to as high as 6012.45 near 2.45pm in New York, then eased to close at 5995.54. Utilities led eight of the 11 industry sectors higher. The Dow topped 44,000 points for the first time, reaching as high as 44,157.29; it closed at 43,988.99.
