Australian retailers are set to ring up billions of dollars in sales through the four-day shopping frenzy that begins this week with Black Friday and ends on Cyber Monday, as pandemic savings collide with a popular sales tradition imported from the US.
JB Hi-Fi, Kmart, Myer and online retailer Kogan.com have unveiled heavily discounted items well ahead of the traditional Friday start, as Australian retailers prepare for a powerful sales surge that research group Roy Morgan has tipped will touch a record $5.4 billion this year. A study by Boston Consulting Group shows 82 per cent of Australians plan to participate in this year’s Black Friday sales, up from 43 per cent in 2020.
