Investors return to Chinese stocks on housing policy hope

The Chinese sharemarket and the onshore yuan climbed on their return from a trading holiday, with sentiment boosted by Beijing’s supportive policy stance and signs of a continued recovery in spending.
The benchmark CSI 300 Index rallied as much as 1.8 per cent on its first trading day in May, with consumer staples and the healthcare sector leading the gains. The gauge was also the top performer in Asia.
