ASX to rise, S&P 500 boosted by materials, tech

Australian shares are poised to rise, bolstered by strong gains in the US listed shares of both BHP and Rio Tinto after iron ore retopped the $US100 a tonne mark in Singapore as China detailed a wider effort to bolster growth.

US stocks were higher on renewed hopes for AI related investments after a strong quarterly result from Micron Technology. The S&P 500 reset its closing record high. Materials and information tech led seven of its 11 industry groups higher; energy was the biggest loser.
