ASX to fall, Wall Street hovers near record highs

Australian shares are poised to fall at Tuesday’s open in line with losses in Europe after far-right parties fared better than expected in weekend elections. In the US, stocks were modestly higher with the rate outlook in sharp focus.

US investors are keenly awaiting two key events this week: the latest CPI data and the latest thoughts from Federal Reserve chairman Jerome Powell. The May price data will be released at 10.30pm on Wednesday AEST. Powell will speak after the end of the latest policy meeting; a statement is set for 4am on Thursday AEST. Powell will speak half an hour later.
