The wave of momentum in financial markets for a Republican win appeared unstoppable before this week, but a late burst of support for Kamala Harris exemplified the uncertainty that has gripped investors.

The twists and turns of the US election are perhaps best expressed by the price action of Trump Media & Technology Group, which owns social media platform Truth Social. Shares of the loss-making company owned by Donald Trump have loosely tracked betting markets, with punters tipping that a Republican presidency could drive traffic to Truth Social, a site used by the former US president to communicate with his followers.
