‘Economic cold war’: EU slaps tariffs on Chinese-made electric cars

London | The European Union has risked a potential “economic cold war” with China, after the bloc’s 27 countries vote to slap hefty tariffs on Chinese-made electric vehicles – in the teeth of opposition from German carmakers like BMW and Volkswagen.
Brussels now has until the end of the month to strike a deal with Beijing. The two sides could potentially agree on a set of minimum prices for EVs, which would supplant the tariffs of between 17 and 35 per cent.
