It was very, very wet. The queues were long. The food was terrible. But guess what - it was worth it.

Paris | The Paris Olympics’ unique opening ceremony, which strung 85 boats and countless performers along 6 kilometres of the Seine River, was clearly made for the 1.5 billion-strong TV audience. So what was it like to actually be there?

In a nutshell, it was wet. So very wet. And it was loud. And expensive. And crowded. But you wouldn’t have wanted to be anywhere else. It felt like you were at the party at the centre of the universe.
