Victoria’s gas aversion is driving emissions higher, energy users say

The Victorian government’s “demonisation” of gas has driven up carbon emissions by preventing the closure of coal power stations, large industrial energy users say.

EnergyAustralia’s Yallourn coal power station could have been closed five years ago had more gas been available to support renewable energy generation, Energy Users Association of Australia chief executive Andrew Richards told a conference in Sydney.
