Q: When making a downsizer contribution, am I limited to my original transfer balance cap of $1.6 million or can I exceed that and contribute up to the current cap of $1.9 million? Barry

A: Superannuation is always a bit of puzzle about how the pieces fit together, and making a downsizer contribution is just one part of that. In the situation you have described, if you qualify for the downsizer contribution it will not be restricted by the transfer balance cap you mention – or the contribution caps and your total super balance (TSB) for that matter, says super specialist Graeme Colley.
