Canadian miner First Quantum will cease mining at Western Australia’s Ravensthorpe nickel and cobalt mine under a cost reduction strategy that will sacrifice more than 300 jobs.

Suspension of mining at Ravensthorpe appeared inevitable after the mine lost $US66 million ($98 million) in the nine months to September 30 and as nickel prices have continued to decline.
