Victorian Opposition Leader John Pesutto faces a major test of his leadership at the state’s first byelection since the Coalition’s fortunes were boosted by the Andrews government’s costly decision to dump the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
Liberal candidate Nicole Werner is a shoo-in to win the safe seat of Warrandyte in Melbourne’s east, but any backsliding could put Mr Pesutto’s leadership under pressure, experts said.
