The fact that a decent chunk of the second day of The Australian Financial Review’s annual Business Summit was set aside for the previously niche topic of cybersecurity, tells you everything you need to know about the shockwaves that went through corporate Australia after the Optus and Medibank data breaches last year.

While the growing threats and relentless battles against actors lurking in the cyber shadows were nothing new to the executives residing in the technology and cyber teams at large organisations (and indeed the journalists who cover them) the resulting public outcry put a rocket up the collective posteriors of the business and political world.
