Caps on campaign spending could be in place before the next federal election under Labor’s plans to head off a political arms race, after it was revealed teal independents spent nearly $10 million to win six key seats.
Wentworth MP Allegra Spender topped the latest Australian Electoral Commission funding report, with spending of more than $2.1 million to win the once blue ribbon Liberal seat of Wentworth at the May election.
