Buyback fever sweeps through corporate Australia

A volatile cocktail of rising interest rates, unsteady consumers and weak capital markets is prompting Australian boardrooms to return more capital to shareholders via buybacks this year.

Over the August earnings season, boards across a broad swathe of corporate Australia declared new buybacks or extended share buyback programs to return capital through a method traditionally favoured by US companies.
