Embattled NSW Trade Minister Stuart Ayres has conceded that John Barilaro’s decision to apply for a plum US trade post was “probably not” in the state’s best interests.

Speaking to media at Sydney’s Allianz Football Stadium, Mr Ayres said that in retrospect, he should have advised Mr Barilaro against applying for the role so soon after leaving parliament.
