Albanese stands tall in the Quad

Anthony Albanese couldn’t have hoped for a better opening to his Prime Ministership as he emphasises a change of government did not mean a change in Australia’s values, its approach to China or the importance of the Quad.

Joe Biden jovially acknowledged the exhausting timing of the Quad meeting for a new prime minister just off the campaign trail, but the immediacy of the Tokyo gathering could not have worked better for Anthony Albanese.

At the very start of his Prime Ministership, he could confidently reassert a Labor government’s continued support for the Quad’s shared values and priorities, while establishing personal relationships with three key world leaders.
