Labor has ‘no magic wand’ to lift wages: PM

Prime Minister Scott Morrison has seized on Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese’s admission that he cannot guarantee real wage increases, saying it shows there is “no magic wand” to boost pay packets despite Labor’s complaints about stagnant growth.

But with the Reserve Bank of Australia forecasting that inflation will continue to outstrip wage growth until late next year, Mr Morrison defended current policy settings, saying wages would go up as unemployment continued to fall and businesses were strong.
