Cases surge, rules tighten as WA finally reopens

Frustrated West Australians are again having a different pandemic experience to the rest of the country. Restrictions are tightened just as they’re easing “over east”.

It was meant to be a week of joy and relief in Western Australia as families reunite and skilled workers can finally come and go as the state’s hard borders come down.

And for many, it will be: more than 23,000 people are booked to travel to and from Perth this week on Qantas and Jetstar flights alone, with the first from Sydney set to touch down at 12.05am on Thursday, a few minutes after the border opens.
