Why we love the rock stars of fashion
From runway shows with killer soundtracks to rock stars fronting fashion campaigns, there is a neat symbiosis to the music and fashion worlds. From the upcoming Fashion issue out on Friday, August 27.
It is months after Fashion Week and still, I can’t get the soundtrack of one particular show out of my head. And so, one Saturday morning, as Sydney braced itself for another lockdown, I texted the designer, Rebecca Vallance, for the notes.
Rebecca kindly obliged, and I spent the first week of lockdown happily humming to her ’70s glam rock playlist: ZZ Top, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Buzzcocks. Every time I heard the opening strains of Hendrix’s cover of Sunshine of Your Love I thought about Vallance’s mini-skirt heavy, get-up-and-party runway show.
