Budget overshoots with ‘optimistic’ productivity gains

Treasurer Josh Frydenberg is relying on overly optimistic productivity figures that inflate incomes, wages, economic wellbeing and ultimately the budget bottomline, according to new economic analysis.

Treasury used a 30-year average to forecast productivity in the budget, which includes massive gains made in the 1990s through the widespread adoption of desktop computers and the internet.
