The Morrison government is yet to confirm whether Australia will follow the US and withdraw its final troops from Afghanistan two decades after the September 11, 2001 terror attacks launched the war on terrorism.

Strategic policy analysts believe Australia will have no choice but to follow suit without the protective shield offered by the Americans, bringing an end to the commitment to a war that cost the lives of 41 Australian soldiers.
