The Australian sharemarket climbed to a nine-month high on Thursday after recording its best session in more than three weeks amid signs the recovery of the domestic economy was tracking well ahead of expectations.

The S&P/ASX 200 Index climbed 77.5 points, or 1.2 per cent, to 6756.7, its highest level since February 25.
