Boston, England | Forty-something James is standing outside his family’s jewellery shop, in the pretty market square of Boston, an English Midlands town of 35,000 people on the North Sea coast. A Christmas market is being set up, but as he surveys the scene he doesn’t seem to be feeling the festive spirit.
“This is England’s murder capital. It’s the Brexit capital. There’s not a lot to be cheerful about,” he says, with that typically English relish for a nice bit of gloom.
