Tech execs face three years' jail over violent broadcasts

Social media executives face up to three years in jail and their companies fined hundreds of millions of dollars if they allow their platforms to be used to broadcast "abhorrent violence" material including terrorist attacks, murders and rapes.

After being unsatisfied with the industry's response during a meeting this week, Prime Minister Scott Morrison will push ahead with what is being touted as a world-first crackdown on social media companies following the alleged Australian-born gunman live-streaming the Christchurch mosque massacre on his Facebook page.
