Professional mountain climber, filmmaker, photographer and author Jimmy Chin made an unsupported crossing of the remote Chang Tang Plateau in Tibet in 2002; skiied down the world’s tallest mountain, Mount Everest, from its summit in 2006; and survived a class-4 avalanche in 2011. In this extract from his latest book he describes another mountaineering adventure that could have ended his career before it began.
