The unexpected ingredients of a trip along the Rhône
Truffle hunting and raw-milk cheese tasting are just two of the delicious excursions during a river cruise in the south of France.
It’s a lot of pressure for one little dog, but Maestro seems rather up to the task – or at least eager. Having left the terraced vineyards behind and passed winding roads and a tiny village, we have arrived at the country estate and organic farm, Le Cos-Piguet. The adorable little Lagotto Romagnolo meets us at the door. Happy, tail wagging hard.
Our small shore excursion group has been anticipating this moment since we stepped off the ship this morning. Out here in the hills of Provence, we wonder: will Maestro find them? Olivier Devêvre, the owner, thinks so. “He’s a smart dog,” he says with affection. “He’s got a good nose.” Soon we’re off in pursuit, moving fast into the woods.
