Blue, green and purple lights beam over me, reflecting off shiny black floor tiles. I’m perched on a sweeping curved “body listening” white lounge, which is gently vibrating with music from the built-in speakers. Lest you imagine I’m in the VIP area of a futuristic nightclub, or have stumbled into an Aldous Huxley novel, let me reassure you.

It’s 5pm, not 2am, and I’m actually floating off the coast of South America on day two of a Ponant cruise. I'm in the “multi-sensory” Blue Eye underwater lounge deep in the hull of French-flagged ship Le Champlain. And it’s far more exclusive than any nightclub.
