The Low Down | The Tokyo EDITION opened in October 2020, not long after Japan closed its borders. With tourism surging once again, the brand’s first Japan offering has had more than two years to prepare for visitors and is opening a second hotel in Tokyo’s flashy Ginza district next year. The EDITION group conceived by New York hotelier Ian Schrager and Marriott International has 11 boutique hotels worldwide; the brand is on a roll with 13 more in the works.
This 206-room property is located on the upper floors of the 38-storey Tokyo World Gate skyscraper in Tokyo’s business district of Toranomon, a former industrial area now undergoing gentrification. While the neighbourhood is convenient but nondescript, the experience becomes more exciting once you arrive on the 31st floor: To a stylish plant-filled lounge and restaurant with outdoor terrace overlooking the Tokyo Tower. The hotel has 22 suites with views of the city’s skyline, private terrace rooms, an indoor pool, gym, and day spa with six treatment rooms.
