Behind the blue door: it would seem as good a way as any to orient oneself to one of France’s most stylish new hotels particuliers. But this hotel is on a square – a quite famous one – where all of the doors are, by order of the Ministère de la Culture, painted the same patrician shade of blue. So you’ll need its specific address, which, handily, happens to also be its name: 1 Place Vendôme.
From its limestone façade, built in 1723, to its tall double pane windows, 1 Place Vendôme is a quintessentially Parisian affair. But it’s one with a Swiss pedigree, belonging to the Scheufele family, proprietors since 1963 of Chopard, the fine jewellery and watchmaker founded in 1860 in the canton of Bern.
