It’s a tough choice while waiting for my plane. Would I like to try a glass of the 2021 Yarra Yering Pinot Noir – or a glass of the 2020 Vasse Felix Cabernet? Or perhaps the 2021 Clonakilla Hilltops Shiraz? All three bottles (and more) are open, have been poured into roomy decanters, and are sitting there, on a tall marble benchtop, waiting to be drunk.
I’m in the spacious surrounds of the Qantas First lounge at Melbourne Airport, and this is the most difficult decision I’ll need to make today. Apart from what to eat with my glass of carefully decanted red, of course, chosen from the all-day à-la-carte selection – no tired sandwiches and bain-maries here, thank you very much. And which of the super-comfy-looking recliners I should stretch out on to enjoy what must be the best view of the runways.
