When Dom Bagnato first judged the Melbourne Cup Carnival’s Fashions on the Field 28 years ago, men wore suits and women wore frocks. These days, as the spring racing season gets into its stride with the first meet of the Sydney Everest Carnival this weekend, anything goes.
But if you do opt to wear a suit to the Sydney Surf to Turf Day at Royal Randwick this Saturday – or to any race in the season, for that matter – you better make sure you also have a damn cute tie and hanky.
