425 stores in 54 countries: How this Aussie brand rapidly expanded
The first time Lesleigh Jermanus went to Australian Fashion Week, she was an intern. The second time, her label Alemais was the opening show.
You hear Lesleigh Jermanus before you see her. It’s the jangle of her many bracelets and rings, the tinny click of metal on metal, which collide as she speaks, gesticulating expansively.
And just as you can hear Jermanus before you see her, the clothes from her brand, Alemais, have a way of announcing themselves. For those interested in sleek tailoring or muted neutrals, look away now. Maybe it’s because she’s a Queensland girl. Possibly it’s because Jermanus launched the business in the dark days of the pandemic. But Alemais is unequivocal in its position on frills (pro), embellishments (mandatory) and fringing (absolutely yes).
