Jenny Kee and Linda Jackson do not do minimalism – in art, in design, or in life. One cannot imagine them Kondo-ing or even editing their sentences: The Australian Financial Review Magazine’s interview with the pair was scheduled for an hour and continued for more than three. They also don’t do trends, firmly refusing to bow to whatever is deemed in or out by fashion powers-that-be, and instead, doing, well, whatever the hell they want.
This over-the-top, devil-may-care approach has cemented their partnership as one of the most successful in the annals of Australian design. It’s easy to see the influence of Kee's store, Flamingo Park, which opened in 1973 in Sydney’s Strand Arcade, with its signature knits and Australiana kitsch, in creative descendants such as Romance Was Born (with whom they have collaborated), costume designer Catherine Martin and Alice McCall. Even the late Karl Lagerfeld was inspired by the pair; he used Kee’s Black Opal design to line the suits in his first collection for Chanel in 1983.
